jewellery care
I want your jewellery to look just as good as the first time you laid eyes on it, so I have some tips to help it stay that way.
Every piece of my jewellery is handmade using solid sterling silver, 9K or 14K gold. To make these precious metals strong enough for everyday wear, they’re blended with other metals, such as copper, zinc, silver, or palladium. This helps with durability, but it can also mean that over time your piece may develop a bit of tarnish, especially if it’s exposed to air, salt or water. Don’t worry, though, it’s not harmful and can be polished off. I include a polish cloth with every order just for this purpose.
Wear it - Your skin’s natural oils work wonders to keep it looking bright and beautiful.
Be Aware - Some gemstones can be a little sensitive to certain conditions, such as light, lotions, suncreams, hairspray, perfumes and extreme temperatures.
Opals - I only use solid and natural opals which will not be affected by water. Oils and creams won't damage your stone but they can reduce shine and clarity. If you were your opal daily, and your stone has lost its shine then it may need a repolish. Contact me for details.
Turquoise - Turquoise is a beautiful and naturally porous gemstone, which means it needs a little extra love to stay looking its best. It can be sensitive to moisture, oils, perfumes and chemicals, so it's best to take your turquoise pieces off before swimming, showering, or applying lotions and sprays. To clean, just gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth—no harsh cleaners needed. Store your turquoise jewellery separately from harder gemstones to avoid scratches, and it’ll reward you with its dreamy colour for years to come.
Love and care should always be given to handcrafted jewellery and harsh chemicals, abrasives and some cleaning agents should be avoided. Ensure you clean gently if you wear it during bathing, swimming or exercise. Gemstones are remarkable, and each is one of a kind and therefore a treasure to be looked after for a long lifespan.
- Always apply makeup, perfume and any body products before your jewellery.
- After each wear, gently wipe your jewellery clean of make-up and skin oils with a soft, clean cloth.
- Remove jewellery when you shower or bathe and particularly the beach, ocean and pool.
- Never use abrasives, chemicals or products to clean your jewellery.
- For minor cleaning, use a soft polishing cloth. Mild dish liquid and water can be used to clean your silver, gold and gemstone jewellery. Be sure to dry it thoroughly before storing in an airtight bag or jewellery storage.
