A solid Coober Pedy crystal opal, its body almost translucent, carrying soft flashes of blue, green and violet that move slowly across the surface as the light changes. Luminous without being loud. Present without demanding attention.

The bezel is 14K yellow gold, the band is sterling silver, soft rounded and comfortable, the contrast between the warm gold and cool silver deliberate and considered.

Is this a solid Australian opal or a doublet/triplet?

This is a solid Australian opal. Not a doublet, not a triplet. The stone is natural and whole, with no synthetic backing or layering of any kind. Solid opals are the most durable and the most valuable opal type, and they are the only kind used in Julia Paris Designs pieces.

Where does the opal come from?

Australia. Australia produces more than 90% of the world's opals, and no other place on earth produces opals of this character and depth. Every opal used in a Julia Paris Designs piece is sourced from Australia and selected by hand for its individual character.

Will the colours in the opal look the same in person as they do in the photos?

Opal is a living stone in the sense that its play of colour shifts with the light and the angle you view it from. Photos capture one moment. In person, the stone will move and change as you do. That is part of what makes it unrepeatable. Every effort is made to photograph each stone honestly, in natural light, so what you see is a true representation of the stone's character.

Is opal suitable for everyday wear?

Opal sits at 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, which means it is softer than sapphire or diamond and benefits from a little care. A bezel setting, which is used in many Julia Paris Designs pieces, wraps the stone in metal and offers significantly more protection than a prong setting. Worn with awareness, an opal ring can absolutely be a daily piece.

How do I care for my opal ring?

Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth. You can wear your opal when you wash your hands, which will actually help to remove any oils or product build up that may be on the stone. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals. Take your opal off when doing activities that may cause impact or scratching. Store separately from harder stones that could scratch the surface.

Can I get this ring in a different size?

Because each ring is built around a specific stone and a one of a kind pieces, resizing options depend on the individual ring. Please reach out before purchasing if you are interested in a size that is different to the listed size. Where possible, minor adjustments can be made, but the integrity of the setting and the stone always comes first.
